Tasting Notes

“Cáscara [cahs’-ca-rah]: Rind, peel, skin, hull, or husk of various fruits”.

Time spent on skins adds an intriguing complexity to this expression of Savagnin.  It is savoury, with a citrus tang and finishes bone dry. Notes of waxy honeycomb and dried herbs can be found playing on the palate.  Cáscara takes its stylistic cue from the wines of the Jura region in eastern France, the original home of Savagnin.

About The Variety
Savagnin is a French grape variety first thought to have been Albarinio when originally planted in Australia. Confused? So were we! In 2006 we planted a block of what we thought was Albarino, only to find out later it was actually the rare French varietal Savagnin (sah-vah-nyan) a white wine grape grown primarily in France’s Jura region.
